英语的衔接语也叫过渡词，就是用来衔接上下文的那些词语，如：then，and，after all，等等。连接词连接英语的句子和段落，使文章流畅自然，使英语句子与句子之间，段落与段落之间的关系一目了然。常见的有：and，but，or， for(因为），nor，so， yet，both…and，not only，but also， either…or， neither…nor。过渡词如下：1、文章及段落起始常用的过渡词语to begin with首先【例】To begin with， smoking should be banned in public 首先，在公共场合应该禁烟。2、文章及段落结尾常用的过渡词语therefore，thus因此【例】Thus，taking morning exercises regularly may reduce the chances of getting 因此，定期进行晨练可以减少生病的概率。3、常用表示先后次序的过渡词语first第一second第二next其次，然后eventually最后，最终since then自此以后finally最后，最终【例】Finally，the country must not again go through the 最终，这个国家必须避免再次遭受战争。4、常用表示因果关系的过渡词语accordingly于是for this reason由于这个原因as a result of由……结果in this way这样consequently结果，因此【例】It rained，for this reason， the game was 由于下雨，游戏取消。5、常用表示比较和对比的过渡词语in contrast with和……成对照similarly同样whereas然而on the contrary相反different from与……不同likewise同样【例】Different from Jane，Mary is interested in M和简不同，玛丽对数学比较感兴趣。
