智能交通系统是现代交通的发展方向。目前的研究主要集中在交通控制与管理、车辆安全与控制、旅行信息服务、交通中的人为因素、交通模型开发、行政和组织问题、通信广播技术与系统方面。从其重中之重的车辆方面看,智能交通系统的开发前景首先是,开发能够从道路设施上直接接受交通信息的车辆,然后是利用控制技术,开发具有高度安全技术的安全车辆,最后实现自动驾驶车辆。通过智能交通系统技术的开发和应用,使人、车、路、环境充分协调,使人与车、车与车、车与路等各交通要素互相协调,从而达到交通系统化,进而建立起快速、准时、安全、便捷的交通运输体系。
